He worked in brand management at Procter & Gamble Company, as a selling supervisor at Lazarus Department Store, and served as a Captain in U.S. Army Military Intelligence. He has been active as consultant and trainer to business corporations, as well as to state and federal government agencies. He has written numerous articles and cases that have appeared in the "Academy of Management Journal," "International Journal of Management," "Human Resource Management," "Journal of Business Strategies," "Case Research Journal," "Business Case Journal," "Handbook of Business Strategy," "Journal of Management Case Studies," "Annual Advances in Business Cases," "Journal of Retail Banking," "SAM Advanced Management Journal," and "Journal of Management," among others. Dr. Hunger is a member of the Academy of Management, North American Case Research Association, Society for Case Research, North American Management Society, Textbook and Academic Authors Association, and the Strategic Management Society. Dr. Charles E. Bamford is the Dennis Thompson Chair of Entrepreneurial Leadership at Queens University of Charlotte. He earned his B.S. degree at the University of Virginia, an M.B.A. at Virginia Tech, and a Ph.D. in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the University of Tennessee. During a twelve-year span prior to pursuing his Ph.D., he held positions managing Business Analysis (Mergers and Acquisitions, Dispositions, and Small Business Consulting) for Dominion Bankshares Corporation (now Wells Fargo Corporation). His business career also included stints as Director of Corporate Training, Systems Analyst, COBOL programmer, and full-time instructor at Virginia Western Community College in the early 1980s. Dr. Bamford has taught courses in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels at universities in Scotland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Prior to joining Queens University, he held positions as an Associate Professor at Texas Christian University and at the University of Richmond. Dr. Bamford has won 14 teaching excellence awards during his career, including six Executive MBA Teacher of the Year Awards, and is a Noble Foundation Fellow in Teaching Excellence. In addition to authoring a best-selling business textbook, Dr. Bamford has published research in the Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Strategies, Journal of Technology Transfer, and Journal of Small Business Management.

Short on thought and long on case study

The actual learning portion of this text book is about a quarter of its total length. If you have read any other management texts, then except for the level of management they are discussing (which is board of directors and CEO/COO); it's long on concepts and short on specifics. the rest of the book is taken up by case studies and application of principles learned in the texts and real world towards the case studies. Finally there is a glossary, which is important since the text doesn't bold face/italicized or breakout in anyway important words or concepts nor have a simplified sentence or two definition. So you will need to bookmark the glossary to get key terms and words down for flash card studying.

Although it's painfully dry at times, this text is a solid reference material for coursework. Just don't use it expecting to have a good read.
